FORS championed by London Transport Commissioner Mike Brown at TfL’s Freight Forum

Article1FORSLast week, more than 80 attendees from the freight industry and London’s boroughs were at Transport for London’s (TfL) 11th Freight Forum.Mike Brown MVO, TfL’s recently appointed Commissioner opened the Forum asserting his personal commitment to the freight and fleet industry and his firm intention to take up where his predecessor, Sir Peter Hendy, left off. He also recognised the vital role freight plays in London’s continued economic success and that collaboration with the industry can lead to positive behaviour change.

Competition intensifies in the UK logistics sector

Article 4For the first time in the bi-annual UK Logistics Confidence Index, operators report that maintaining
their existing customer base is now the top focus for logistics companies.

The Index, commissioned by Barclays and Moore Stephens, reports that for over half (57%) of operators, their main source of new business over the past six months has come from ‘switchers’ from other logistics service providers. Barely one in ten said that their main source of new business came from customers renewing existing contracts.

Civil engineering star aiming for wise award

Article 3A leading North East civil engineer has been shortlisted for a prestigious award for her work in the UK’s STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths – sector.

Kate Cairns, the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East’s Sustainability Panel chair, has been shortlisted for the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Awards in the Health and Safety category, sponsored by Amec Foster Wheeler.

Urban delivery hybrid unveiled by Scania

Article 2Scania has unveiled a hybrid vehicle for its extensive range of urban distribution trucks.

This combines electric and biodiesel operation, while other engines run on gas and biogas, biodiesel, bioethanol and hydro-treated vegetable oil.

The move comes as part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to offering the widest range of sustain­able transport solutions possible.
