Preventing HGV bridge strikes

Since 2000, there has been an average of 1,800 railway bridge strikes per year reported to Network Rail.

The result of such incidents often includes damage to the vehicle and bridge, risk of injury to the driver and other road users and potential damage to trains travelling over the bridge.  The costs of delays to the train network can be substantial and these are generally borne by the train operator and the vehicle operator, which can have disastrous financial impact on the companies involved.
